Q. What are your international gateway airports?

A. International visitors are likely to fly into John F. Kennedy International Airport and rent a car for touring across New York State. The rental can then be returned at the end of your trip to Buffalo Niagara International Airport and you can take a quick 50-minute flight back to New York City. You can also complete the general route in reverse by flying into Toronto Pearson International Airport and returning your rental in New York City at the conclusion of your visit. Travelers often like to tack on additional destinations as well and those within a day's drive include Boston, Massachusetts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.

Q. What is the recommended mode of transportation within the destination?

A. It is recommended that you rent a car. The roads are well maintained, easy to navigate, and have minimal traffic congestion.

Q. What are the ideal calendar months to visit New York State?

A. New York State has beautiful offerings throughout the entire year but most visitors choose to explore between May and October.

A. From May through October, you can expect temperatures between 13-21 celsius with an average of 105 days of sunshine, and from November through April, 2.25-4 celsius with an average of 61 days of sunshine.

Q. What should I pack for travel during warmer months?

A. It is recommended that you include walking shoes, comfortable slacks or shorts, lightweight shirts, a light jacket, sunscreen, sunglasses, bug/tick spray, hat, bathing suit, towel, rain jacket, and umbrella.

A. During the late fall and winter months, it is recommended that you pack boots, winter coat, long-sleeve shirts and sweaters, knit hat, scarf, gloves, long pants, clothing that is easy to layer, and if participating in skiing or other winter activities, snow pants and waterproof outerwear.
